Philip Wasta is the Executive Director of the MedQuarter Regional Medical District. Wasta is a graduate of the University of Iowa - College of Liberal Arts with a Bachelor of General Studies degree. A graduate of the Leadership for Five Seasons program, he has consistently dedicated decades of service in many influential community organizations such as the Fifteen In Five/PLAY Committee, Witwer Center, the American Cancer Society of Linn County, and the Downtown School Committee. Wasta has served on the District board since it was founded in February 2007.
Karla Sibert is the owner of Dairy Queen#4 located on 16th Street NE. She attended the University of Iowa, and Pacific Travel School. She was involved with the travel and tourism business for the majority of her life. A 1994, graduate of the Leadership of Five Season program, she has stayed committed to her passion of volunteering with several non-profit organizations within the community and the State of Iowa. Karla has served on several boards; Miracles in Motion, the Cedar Valley Humane Society, and founded The Iowa Equine Rescue & Awareness League, in 2006. She started a certification course with Iowa law enforcement academy, dealing with Equine Neglect and Abuse with Iowa State University. Working with Law Enforcement in all 99 counties in Iowa, helping with the most severe cases of Equine Neglect/abuse, the group continues to serve the state of Iowa and beyond. A member of the Iowa Veterinarian Rapids Response team, and helped with the floods of 2008. She worked closely with the Iowa Attorney General and AARP, during a time when her parents were involved with their elderly fraud case in 2014, which she recovered over $44K. Sibert has served on the District board since 2017.
Isaiah Pirtle is the Branch Manager of Collins Community Credit Union. Isaiah has held a few different management positions at the Credit Union since he started in 2011. Prior to working at Collins Community Credit Union he was a student at Kirkwood Community College where he studied Business and Economics. He loves to work with his community and its citizens. Isaiah works closely with Cedar Rapids Police Protective Charity and their efforts to raise money for annual events like “Santa Cop” and “Cops & Kids Back to School.”
In January 2007, Kevin Platz joined the Cedar Rapids Area Association of REALTORS® as Chief Executive Officer. He reports directly to the Board of Directors and is responsible for managing the staff, financial and asset management, strategic planning, oversight of government affairs and community involvement, continuing education and public relations and event planning.
Prior to joining CRAAR, Platz was Manager, Economic Development with Priority One, the economic development arm of the Cedar Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce. Platz was directly responsible for the recruitment of new companies and existing business projects. In his two years with Priority One, Platz was instrumental in creation of hundreds of jobs and millions of dollars in capital investment in the Corridor.
Platz is a 2004 graduate of the Leadership for 5 Seasons program, a 2007 40 under 40 recipient, a member of Cedar Rapids Downtown Rotary, Thornbridge Condo Association Board of Directors, and has been involved with Junior Achievement, the Marion Jaycees and the Marion Metro Kiwanis.
Larry Lee is the Vice President for Facilities and Operations for Coe College since September 2016. Larry has a history of working at a number of higher education institutions including Carnegie Mellon University, Allegheny College and the University of Denver where he served in roles including Director of Athletics, Associate Vice President and Vice President at two institutions. Prior to his career in higher education was the U.S. National Team Coach for US Judo and the Executive Director for the United States Judo Association.
Jamie Jones joined Mount Mercy University in 2017 as a Project Manager in the Office of Marketing & Communications. Prior to Mount Mercy, she was a Creative Media/Communications Manager at the University of Iowa and Web Content & Social Media Manager at Knox College. Jamie returned to Eastern Iowa in 2014 after working in marketing/communications positions in Dallas, Texas. She received her B.A. in Sports Marketing & Public Relations from Wartburg College.
Lt. Tony Robinson joined the Cedar Rapids Police Department in 1994. During his time with the department he has worked as a patrol officer, investigator, narcotics officer, and federal drug task force officer. He was promoted to Sergeant in 2005 during which time he supervised the Narcotics Unit, Street Crimes Unit, Crime Scene and Evidence/Property Division. He was promoted to Lieutenant in 2013 where he supervised a patrol shift and is currently assigned as a liaison to the Central District.
